Online Educator Development Program

Revised Online Educator Professional Development Program

Teach By Distance is pleased to announce the upcoming launch of our revised Online Educator Professional Development Program.

The seven-module core program is designed to provide a more engaging training experience while meeting the needs of faculty with diverse teaching roles. The course will model the practices and strategies we use when developing online courses for Bama By Distance students. Instructors will experience a variety of content delivery methods within the course, including readings, interactive activities, videos, and course assignments. You will also have the opportunity to create components that can be used in managing and delivering your online courses. You can earn a certificate in online teaching by completing a set of optional portfolio activities, and you may complete additional modules for a credential in online course development. A Certificate in Online Teaching, if applicable, may be placed in the participant's Faculty Activity Record as Professional Development activity.

It's important to keep your online teaching skills up-to-date, so continuing education will be an important component of the new program. Training opportunities throughout the year will include workshops with a focus on pedagogy, practical strategies, and effective practice. On-demand materials will also be available for faculty who need just-in-time training.

For more information or to sign up to be notified about the program when it debuts this fall, email Cheryl Bosarge at

Original Online Educator Professional Development Program

Like the revised program, the original Online Educator Professional Development Program was designed for both novice and experienced instructors, and features seven core sessions that prepare participants with the strong foundation needed to become a successful online educator. Three additional elective sessions must be chosen based upon participant interests. This version of the program will be phased out during the Fall 2018 semester. If you are already registered for the program, you will remain enrolled in this version but may elect to be enrolled in the updated program.
