Travel Grants

Faculty who develop and/or teach online courses in support of Bama By Distance programs may be eligible for a travel grant to attend a conference associated with distance learning.  If you are interested in participating in a distance education related conference, please read the travel grants policy and complete the electronic conference-funding request. We will contact you with more information.

Each year, travel grant recipients share their conference experiences by presenting at a Faculty Conference Showcase. Please visit the Showcase website for current highlights.

Online Learning Consortium Innovate
Dates: April 18-20, 2018
Location: Nashville, TN

OLC Innovate is a joint conference presented by OLC and MERLOT, with an emphasis on emerging technologies, academic leadership, practices that inform policy, and collaborative cross-disciplinary problem solving. Session types include interactive workshops, master classes, emerging ideas sessions, roundtables, facilitated conversations, research highlights, and trends in innovation.

US Distance Learning Association (USDLA) National Conference
Dates: April 29-May 2, 2018
Location: Indianapolis, IN

USDLA is a nonprofit distance learning association that supports distance learning research, development and praxis. Promoting the fusion of communication of technologies with learning in broad multi-discipline applications, it also focuses on national and international technology-based distance learning across all learning communities.

The Teaching Professor Conference
Dates: June 1-3, 2018
Location: Atlanta, GA

The Teaching Professor Conference was founded to provide a forum for educators of all disciplines and experience levels to share best practices in college teaching and learning. It focuses on evidence-based solutions to instructional challenges and offers hands-on and practical teaching solutions that can be immediately applied in the classroom.

Distance Learning Administration Conference
Dates: June 24-27, 2018
Location: Jekyll Island, GA

Sponsored by University of West Georgia Online and The Online Journal of Distance Learning Administration, DLA conferences are designed for those who involved or interested in the administration, management, planning, and evaluation of Distance learning programs.  Conference topics include support for distance students, training and support for distance instructors, managing growth, organizational issues in distance education, program evaluation, marketing, and more.

Distance Teaching and Learning Conference
Dates: August 7-9, 2018
Location: Madison, WI

The DTL Conference program emphasizes evidence-based practice, educational innovation, practical application, and peer to peer networking and collaboration, with the goal of providing an affordable and transformative professional development experience. Session topics include innovative practices in distance education, course design and teaching strategies, technology tools, and learner support.

Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) International Convention
Dates: October 23-27, 2018
Location: Kansas City, MO

AECT is a large professional association whose members work to improve instruction through technology. It is widely recognized for activities focused on the study, planning, application, and production of communications media for instruction and is the major organization for educators actively involved in the design of instruction and systematic approach to learning.

Quality Matters Connect Conference
Dates: October 30-November 2, 2018
Location: St. Louis, MO

The Quality Matters annual conference is focused on quality assurance in online learning at all levels of an organization, and provides an opportunity to network with colleagues from around the world, explore new ideas, learn about new engagement strategies, and examine solutions to online learning challenges.

EDUCAUSE Annual Conference
Dates: October 30-November 2, 2018
Location: Denver, CO

As a nonprofit association whose mission is to advance higher education through the use of information technology, EDUCAUSE provides programs and activities to help leaders and managers shape strategic decisions at their institutions. Programs and activities emphasize thought leadership, documentation of effective practices, and the influence of emerging trends and technologies on the evolution of IT in higher education.

Online Learning Consortium Accelerate
Dates: November 14-16, 2018
Location: Orlando, FL

Accelerate is OLC’s annual international conference, with an emphasis on driving quality online learning, accelerating innovation, and advancing best practices in online education. Over 400 sessions cover a wide variety of special interest areas, including educational technology, accessibility, gamification, open educational resources, and leadership.
