Online Educator Development Program

The Online Educator Development Program is designed for both novice and experienced instructors. The program features seven core sessions that prepare participants with the strong foundation needed to become a successful online educator. Three additional elective sessions can be chosen based upon participant interests. Upon completion of the 10-session program, participants earn a certificate that, if applicable, may be placed in the participant’s Faculty Activity Record as Professional Development activity.

The order of the core and elective sessions is flexible and may be chosen by the participant. Sessions are offered face-to-face throughout the year and are also available virtually in the Blackboard learning management system.

Required core sessions:

  • Orientation to Online Teaching
  • Choosing Teaching Materials
  • Promoting Student Engagement
  • Universal Design
  • Communications
  • Assessment in Online Courses
  • Managing Expectations

In addition, three elective workshops must be chosen from the following list:

  • Designing Interactive Course Content
  • Blackboard IM Fundamentals
  • Advanced Blackboard IM
  • Blackboard Collaborate Fundamentals
  • Advanced Blackboard Collaborate
  • Creating Accessible Documents
